Second weekend in October

Art & Sole Art Walk & Studio Tour

Open studios, porch concerts, and artisan markets span Cridland Road, Courtland Street, Hill Street, and Lakeview Street. Artists welcome visitors inside their home studios while musicians play from porches and driveways.

  • 40+ artists, makers, and performers participate each year.
  • Guided walking tour maps available at the Lake Daniel Park kiosk.
  • Proceeds support scholarships for local art students and public art installations.

Early November

Westerwood 5K & Fun Run

Our fall road race loops around Guilford Avenue, Lake Daniel Park, and Fairmont Street. Families, strollers, and pets are encouraged, and cheering stations line Lakeview Street.

  • Chip-timed 5K plus 1-mile Fun Run for all ages.
  • Race supports Westerwood beautification grants and student scholarships.
  • Volunteer water tables, course marshals, and finish-line crew needed.

Mid-January

Neighborhood Chili Cook-off

Westerwood warms up winter evenings with a friendly cook-off hosted at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant fellowship hall. Live music, raffle prizes, and dessert tables round out the evening.

  • Competitor categories include traditional, vegetarian, and "spiciest pot."
  • Proceeds benefit the Neighborhood Small Projects grant and Lake Daniel Park improvements.
  • Bring a canned good for the Greensboro Urban Ministry donation drive.

Spring rotation

Historic Home & Garden Tour

Docent-led tours open the doors to carefully preserved Craftsman, Tudor, and Colonial Revival homes. Gardeners share pollinator-friendly plantings and porch restoration tips.

  • Features 6–8 homes plus garden stops each year.
  • Partnered with Preservation Greensboro for archival displays.
  • Ticket proceeds fund preservation education and porch repair mini-grants.
